Her husband Abhishek Bachchan is a film producer and so is her Pa (father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan). With ready infrastructure at home, one wonders why Aishwarya Rai does not turn filmmaker, especially considering heroines like Priyanka Chopra and Anushka Sharma have already made strides in this direction. Aishwarya admits: “This thought crosses your mind because of the way in which I have worked on every one of my films. I am so invested as a professional that you can club me into any role. On Sarbjit, they would laugh and call me ‘AD’ (Assistant Director) since I was part of everything. I just get into my films completely and I do think like a producer and say ‘We don’t have to spend on this.’ I have always been a director-producer-co-actor’s actor. It’s always been about filmmaking.”

The actress reveals that her co-workers too have often suggested that she start making films on her own steam.

So is Aishwarya taking the plunge and turning producer sometime soon?  “I keep saying that it’s open ended, I will cross the bridge when I reach it. At this point, I am so invested in every film to take on more responsibility is just an impossibility. I always take on only as much as I can on my plate because I also have a very full personal life.”
